Two Main Types Of Mesothelioma

Mesothelioma, like other cancers, can be divided into two groups: benign and malignant.

Benign mesothelioma refers to non-cancerous tumors develop in the pleura (layers of cells around the lungs). The main difference between benign and cancer is that it does not spread to other tissues. However, the symptoms of both benign and malignant tumors have the same shape and is often difficult to distinguish between the two, if not through the lung biopsies. However, less than 10% of mesothelioma cases are benign. Half of benign mesothelioma, there are no symptoms.

Patients can learn about the disease through routine X-ray scans of the lungs. In the other half, the symptoms of malignant mesothelioma include chest pain, chronic cough and fever. However, the most distinguished feature is the presence of the club in the fingers. This occurs when the oxygen level in blood drops to the distorted angles of the nail bed. Benign mesothelioma treatment is relatively easy. This is the surgical removal of tumors. Patients should continue to have regular checkups and chest X-rays to ensure that malignant mesothelioma develops in its malignant form.

Malignant mesothelioma is the most common disease. This type of mesothelioma can be further subdivided into a place where he has produced a generation of malignant cells or tumor cancer. Classification of the location of the tumor to give three of mesothelioma cancer:

(I), pleural mesothelioma: This has generated a protective lining and cavity of the lungs. Most of the symptoms associated with it for the accumulation of fluid in the lining of the lungs and chest cavity (called pleural effusion). This leads to breathing, shortness of breath, persistent cough, coughing up blood and fever. This is the most common form of mesothelioma cancer account for 75% of all cases

(Ii) peritoneal mesothelioma: the development of cancer of the stomach and abdomen. The cancer usually begins in the abdominal area and spread to other parts of the body. Symptoms are due to the pressure of the tumor in the stomach and abdomen, causing abdominal pain, bloating, loss of appetite, vomiting, breathing problems, anemia and a host of other symptoms. Peritoneal mesothelioma accounts for 10-20% of mesothelioma cases.

(Iii) the pericardial mesothelioma: This affects the lining of the heart chambers. Symptoms include chest pain, shortness of breath and palpitations. This is the rarest form of mesothelioma, which is less than 10% of cases.

Another way to classify the type of mesothelioma is through the birth of cancer cells. There are basically two types of cells of mesothelioma: epitheloid and sarcomatoid. Epitheloid cells only arise in the lining of organs. Chances of survival are greater with this type of cancer. Sarcomatoid cells are more difficult to treat as it affects other tissues such as bones, muscles, cartilage ... etc. This rare type of cancer responsible for any kind of treatment. Cases, both of which arise in the cells, is known as biphasic mesothelioma.
